Carlo Monte, a pizza chef running a straw‑shack on the French Riviera in the south, is approached by rebels who notice his likeness to Gonzales Y Ramirez, President of Malaguenia. They plan to have him impersonate the dictator on a French visit and announce his abdication. Carlo instead arrests the conspirators, restores democracy, while deposed tyrant ends up running Carlo’s beach hut, painted militaristically.
