In 1999, Paul and his partner Julie cherish time with their young daughter while searching for a home in Montreal. Frequent visits with Julie’s family in St-Nicolas, a Quebec City suburb, are disrupted when Roland, Julie’s father, is diagnosed with a serious illness. As the proud patriarch struggles to conceal his condition from his children, he is eventually admitted to a palliative care center. Paul and his loved ones must grapple with the difficult reality of Roland's impending death, during which Paul rediscovers his passion for drawing.
