A disillusioned young man abandons his comfortable upbringing to join a nomadic vegetarian cult led by a magnetic pilgrim. The troupe survives by begging, provoking hostility from locals and even facing arrest after pilfering eggs. Together with fellow devotee Marianne, Paul strives to build a secluded sanctuary on a remote island, hoping to forge an ideal community away from society.
