Jaswinder travels to the United States, promising his parents that he will return soon and that his sister’s marriage will be set. In America, he meets an American woman named Sally and marries her to secure a visa. He keeps the outward promise to his family while pursuing a life that diverges from his original plan.

Meanwhile, in India, his parents have found him a new bride, Richa. His sister calls him back home, saying their father has had a heart attack, and he returns to India to become engaged to her. He detests the idea but marries her and escapes to the United States, telling Sally that everything and everyone was fine in India.

Back in India, his parents are amazed at his behavior, and Richa is surprised that her husband left so soon after the wedding, as he was supposed to take her with him to New York. Jaswinder’s father Jatta Singh Bedi and Richa follow him to New York. Upon arrival, they are met by Flower, who tells and inspires Richa to adopt a more modern look and attitude.

Jaswinder doesn’t tolerate the change and ends up chucking her out, a move Sally remains largely unaware of. But after some time, he finds himself drawn to Richa again and begins to fall in love, unwilling to face a life apart from her. Will Sally uncover the truth? Will the couple eventually find a way to be together and build a life in the end?

This continuing tale explores trust, family duty, and the pull between old loyalties and new desires, set against the backdrop of cross-cultural romance and the pressures of starting anew in a distant land.

Q1

Why did Jaswinder marry Sally in America?

A.

Jaswinder married Sally primarily to secure a visa that would allow him to stay in the United States. The marriage was strategic rather than romantic, serving as a practical solution to his immigration status while he pursued his dreams in America.

The film establishes early on that Jaswinder is willing to prioritize his personal ambitions over his original promises.

Q2

Why did Jaswinder's sister tell him their father had a heart attack?

A.

Jaswinder's sister used the lie about their father having a heart attack as a tactic to bring him back home to India. She knew he had been away for too long and wanted him to return to fulfill his family obligations, particularly his engagement to Richa.

Earlier in the film, Jaswinder's distance from home and forgotten promises set the stage for his family resorting to desperate measures.

Q3

Why did Jaswinder agree to marry Richa if he didn't want to?

A.

Jaswinder married Richa despite his discomfort because of intense family pressure and his sense of duty toward his parents. He went through with the marriage to satisfy his family's expectations, though he had no genuine intention of staying with her.

The arrangement was made by his parents without his input, reflecting the traditional values that conflict with his personal desires.

Q4

Why did Jaswinder leave Richa right after the wedding?

A.

Jaswinder left Richa immediately after the wedding because he never intended to actually live the married life in India. He escaped back to the United States, leaving Richa behind with the promise that he would take her to New York, maintaining the facade of a normal marriage while continuing his life with Sally.

His earlier strategic marriage to Sally established his pattern of deception to avoid family consequences.

Q5

Why did Jaswinder reject Richa after she became more modern?

A.

Jaswinder rejected Richa's modern transformation because he could not tolerate the changes in her appearance and demeanor. His expectations were rooted in traditional preferences, and Richa's sudden Westernization challenged his idealized image of her, leading him to push her away.

Flower's influence on Richa was introduced specifically to trigger this conflict in their relationship.

Q6

How did Jaswinder's feelings change toward Richa?

A.

Over time in New York, Jaswinder's feelings for Richa shifted from indifference to genuine love. Despite initially rejecting her transformation, he came to appreciate her as a person and no longer wanted to live apart from her, marking a real emotional turning point in their relationship.

This shift occurs after Richa adapts to American life, showing that his initial rejection was about control rather than genuine incompatibility.

What was Flower's role in the story?

A.

Will Sally discover the truth about Jaswinder's marriage?

A.

A.

Jaswinder's father Amrish Puri and Richa traveled to New York to confront Jaswinder about his behavior. They were shocked by his sudden departure after the wedding and wanted to resolve the situation in person, bringing the family conflict to his American doorstep.
