Oru Maravathoor Kanavu

Michael, his wife Mary, and their young son decide to purchase a piece of farmland in the peaceful village of Maravathoor. However, this land quickly becomes a focal point of conflict, as a wealthy and influential man named [Palanichamy] conspired with his nephew Maruthu to ensure that no one else could claim the property. Their tactics are ruthless, including sabotaging a vital spring water source on the farm to make it difficult for Michael and his family to sustain themselves, ultimately forcing Michael to consider selling the land.

During this turbulent time, Michael and his family take refuge at the home of Annie and her grandmother, where they struggle with many hardships brought on by water shortages and Michael’s personal issues, notably his gambling addictions and alcoholism. These vices further complicate their situation, making their efforts to establish a steady life increasingly difficult. To provide support and stability, Michael’s brother Chandy, played by Mammootty, arrives in Maravathoor. Chandy is an energetic and resourceful man, actively involved in political activities in southern Kerala, and he begins to take a leading role in protecting the family’s interests and fighting against the oppressive schemes of Palanichamy.

Chandy’s arrival shakes up the dynamics of the village’s power structure. To bolster his efforts, allies such as Antappan and other political party workers come from his hometown, adding muscle to their group. Unfortunately, Palanichamy, scheming to remove Chandy as a threat, spreads malicious rumors suggesting that Michael’s wife, Mary, and Chandy are involved in an illicit relationship. These false accusations lead to a tragic misunderstanding that culminates in the entire village waking up one morning to find that Chandy and Mary have supposedly run away together, igniting gossip, suspicion, and chaos throughout Maravathoor.

In the aftermath, Chandy returns to the village after a brief absence, where he faces the emotional pain of burying his brother Michael, who had passed away. The villagers and Chandy himself are bewildered and outraged, but Chandy explains that he had to leave suddenly because the leader of his political party, known as Korah Sir, had died. He also reveals that before his departure, Michael had come to see him, under the influence of alcohol, confessing that he had squandered money through gambling, which inadvertently led to his wife’s death. Michael had also told Chandy about the circulating rumor, and Chandy reassures him that he should not worry but instead accept the situation.

To clear his name and restore his honor, Chandy responds to the letters he received from Michael, which provide evidence of his innocence. In doing so, he hopes to dispel the rumors and rebuild trust among the villagers. As the film concludes, the truth is ultimately uncovered, and the misunderstandings are resolved. Chandy, having faced numerous trials, is finally able to find peace and a sense of belonging once more in Maravathoor, restoring the harmony that was disrupted by greed, deceit, and falsehoods.
