During the late 1970s and early 1980s a wave of assassinations in Sicily draws the concern of Communist deputy Pio La Torre, who urges General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa to accept the post of prefect of Palermo and confront the Mafia. Dalla Chiesa tackles the role with the same relentless focus and tactics he previously employed against the Red Brigade.
