The breakup is triggered by two separate breaches of trust. Jackie discovers that Daniel has been secretly visiting his imprisoned sister Lizzy, whose sentence is the reason he needs a U.S. work visa, and Daniel is furious that Jackie followed him to the prison. Their mutual secrecy about vulnerable parts of their lives poisons the relationship, and Jackie later compounds the problem with a mistake at a press conference that makes the affair impossible to keep quiet. By the time Falcon Airlines moves in, both agree the relationship is no longer worth the risk to AirCruz.

Falcon Airlines does not need to win the underlying Dallas-gates lawsuit to damage Jackie. Through private investigator Julie Shatz, Falcon obtains surveillance photos from Jackie and Daniel's Dominican Republic trip and turns them into a blackmail setup: Jackie can either abandon the gates and look incompetent, or let the photos expose a forbidden office relationship and lose her job. The trap is designed so that either choice costs her authority at AirCruz, regardless of how the lawsuit itself is decided.

The Dominican Republic trip with Daniel is introduced earlier as a romantic getaway, but it doubles as the source material Butten later exploits.

Jackie resigns because Butten's trap forces her to choose between her reputation and the company. Allowing the affair photos to become public would end her career and damage AirCruz, while abandoning the Dallas expansion would confirm the board's long-held suspicion that her personal life makes her unfit to lead. Rather than hand Falcon the satisfaction of either outcome, Jackie chooses to resign and protect the airline from scandal, even though it means giving up the company her father built.

Earlier in Office Romance the board openly questions whether Jackie earned her role or simply inherited it as Captain Jack's daughter, which is exactly the doubt her resignation seems to confirm.

Sydney calls Daniel while he is stuck fighting traffic through the Holland Tunnel, and he arrives at the press conference in time to publicly admit the affair himself. By voluntarily disclosing what the photographs were meant to reveal, Daniel removes the secrecy that gave the images their leverage. Once the relationship is out in the open, Falcon can no longer use the photos as a weapon, because Butten's entire trap depended on Jackie hiding the truth.

After Daniel's admission, Captain Jack addresses the AirCruz board and states publicly that Jackie, not he, is the executive actually responsible for the company's success. He then promises to resign with her if the board forces her out. By tying his own future to hers and crediting her with AirCruz's achievements, he removes the leverage the board has held over Jackie for the entire film, namely the unspoken belief that she owes her position to him rather than to her own work.

With Captain Jack's endorsement neutralizing the board's leverage and Daniel's confession neutralizing Butten's blackmail, Jackie reverses her resignation and confirms that the Dallas expansion will move forward as planned. She then kisses Daniel in front of everyone at the press conference, publicly uniting her personal and professional identities in the same moment the film had been forcing her to separate them.

Lizzy's prison sentence is the reason Daniel needs an American work visa, and concealing that vulnerability fits his larger habit of treating personal information as something to be compartmentalized. He hides the visits from Jackie the same way he hides the visa issue at the office, which is precisely the pattern of secrecy that Butten later weaponizes. The revelation reframes Daniel's secrecy as self-protection rather than deception, but it also exposes how that same instinct to hide is what threatens the relationship.

The post-credits sequence reveals that HR has issued a new policy permitting declared workplace relationships, followed by a procession of employees reporting interconnected affairs. Marcus is identified as the father of Sydney's baby, and the final disclosures include Jackie and Daniel's engagement and planned London wedding. The gag is that Jackie and Daniel were never uniquely unprofessional, only unusually visible, and that replacing prohibition with disclosure removes the secrecy that allowed the company and its rival to weaponize private lives.

Sydney's chaotic on-the-job delivery earlier in Office Romance already established that real life was entering the workplace no matter how strict the policy sounded.

The finale argues that the danger at AirCruz was never desire itself but the obligation to hide it. Jackie built her authority by fully identifying with the company because the board saw her as the founder's daughter, and Daniel treated his vulnerability as information to be managed. Once Daniel admits the affair and Captain Jack credits Jackie with AirCruz's success, both the romantic and the professional secrets stop functioning as leverage. The post-credits parade then extends the point into farce: secrecy was the currency through which the company and Falcon Airlines controlled people, and disclosure, not abstinence, is what disarms it.

During the post-credits procession of declared office relationships, Marcus is publicly identified as the father of Sydney's baby. The reveal is played for comedy rather than drama and reinforces the film's punchline that the entire office has been carrying on undisclosed relationships all along, with Jackie and Daniel simply being the most visible example.
