The film continues the saga of young writer Kalle Päätalo, following his adolescence amid harsh circumstances. As he matures he discovers his talent for storytelling while coping with the strain of his father’s imprisonment in a forced‑labour camp, a man depicted as unstable. The story contrasts the grueling work of lumberjacking with the young author's growing hope, showing how his resolve is forged by both the forest and his father’s erratic presence.
