The third cinematic remake of Teuvo Pakkala’s play follows a band of lumberjacks whose lives become entangled with the nearby villagers. Romantic pairings blossom between the men and the village girls, while the farm of Pietola and house‑keeper Katri attract the scheming Rättäri, who holds Pietola’s IOU deeds and attempts to blackmail Katri to win her.
