Otello Morsiani, a lawyer from Italy, is hired to assess land values in the Po Delta, where the area is slated for expropriation to create a national park. He discovers that methane‑extraction has destabilized the soil, creating a risk of subsidence. While probing these hazards, Morsiani uncovers a murder mystery tied to a death from twenty years earlier.
