Night Watch

From the dawn of time, the Others (supernatural humans) were split into Light and Dark. In medieval times, a great battle forces them into a truce. Geser (Light) and Zavulon (Dark) establish parallel police forces—the Night Watch and the Day Watch—to maintain the balance.

Leaders set up a police-like force to keep the truce intact, assigning duties to monitor supernatural activity and prevent breaches. The balance between Light and Dark depends on these organizations working in tandem.

Anton Gorodetsky visits witch Daria, asking for a spell to return his wife and cause her miscarriage as part of it. The attempt is interrupted when two intruders burst in and restrain Daria. They realize Anton can see them, revealing that he is also an Other.

The intruders identify Anton as an Other after witnessing his ability to perceive them. This marks the moment he joins the Night Watch as part of the ongoing conflict between Light and Dark.

In 2004, Anton has joined the Night Watch and patrols Moscow, encountering portents tied to an ancient prophecy. These signs suggest a powerful Other could break the stalemate in favor of the Dark.

Anton's investigations bring him to Svetlana, a nurse beset by disaster, and to a young boy named Yegor. Geser warns that the portents are tied to the prophecy of a formidable Other whose allegiance is pivotal.

During the climax, Anton discovers Svetlana is also an Other, and he begins teaching her to control her power to prevent catastrophe.

Anton learns that Yegor is his own son, born while his wife was pregnant during the failed spell. This revelation reframes his understanding of his family and history.

The truth drives Yegor away from Anton and toward Zavulon, fulfilling part of the Dark's plan to leverage the boy against Anton and the Light. This shift heightens the stakes as Zavulon seeks to use Yegor to tilt the balance.

In a moment of rage, Anton strikes Zavulon, acknowledging the prophecy's turn while vowing not to give up. He then prevents a catastrophic storm from leveling Moscow, saving the city.

Though the prophecy seems fulfilled and the Dark appears to have the upper hand, Anton's actions keep the balance alive. The event reaffirms his determination to protect his loved ones.

The narrative closes with Anton resolved to continue the fight, accepting that the struggle between Light and Dark is ongoing but that he will not give up. His vow signals a continued vigilance over Moscow's fate. The film ends with a promise to persevere against overwhelming odds.
