This project marks the return of legendary director Rintaro, his first new work in over a decade. It explores the life and career of pioneering 1930s director Sadao Yamanaka and the creation of his film, Nezumikozo Jirokichi. Yamanaka, who died tragically before his 30th birthday, left a significant impact on Japanese cinema, inspiring generations of filmmakers. Though most of his films are lost, scripts survive, and this project reimagines one of those lost films—a tale of a celebrated bandit in Edo-era Japan—with a team including Katsuhiro Otomo and Taro Maki.
