Starring

Chantal Akerman

Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman, now living in New York, creates a visual diary in which filmed images of the city are paired with the written letters of her devoted mother back in Brussels. As the film progresses, the urban scenery increasingly dominates the frame while Akerman reads the letters herself, and the mother’s voice gradually recedes, allowing the portrait of New York to take center stage.
