A devil named Matěj is forced to fulfill the wishes of a young man, Ondra, as a form of punishment, until Ondra declares himself completely happy. Hell observes with amusement, doubting whether true happiness is attainable. Initially granting simple desires, Ondra's life improves, but more complex challenges emerge when he falls in love with a countess and Matěj develops feelings for the cook. The situation becomes increasingly complicated as Matěj struggles to maintain order while navigating unexpected romantic entanglements.
