Recounted as the reminiscence of an elderly narrator, the film follows Adan, a Puerto Rican boy in the late 1950s who must find a new home for his beloved goat, Chivo, before his family moves to New York City. In the frantic search, Adan also encounters his first love with childhood friend Denise, a bond he must abandon as they both face imminent separation.
