Momo Erica Necci is an orphan girl who finds herself in a quiet town where everyday life unfolds with gentle rhythms and a deep sense of community. She quickly forms a warm bond with Beppo Riccardo Rossi, a kindly elder who treats her like a granddaughter, and with Gigi Giulio Renzi-Ricci, a boy who is instantly drawn to her warmth. As their circle grows, Enzo Patrick Donati and Livia Cecilia Minutillo-Turtur join in, alongside other young friends, and they stake a claim to an ancient amphitheatre as their shared playground. Even Cassiopea, a tortoise they meet on the street, becomes a small symbol of the town’s carefree charm, a quiet witness to their adventures and everyday kindness.
But a shadow drifts into the streets when the Gray Men descend, persuading many townspeople that time is scarce and offering a sharp, unsettling remedy: a grand Bank of Time designed to hoard hours and sustain life. A Gray Man even attempts to bribe Momo with a stunning doll, yet her compassion unlocks a change within him, turning him into a Gray-Pink Man who confesses that warmth and love are foreign to his chilly world.
Determined to shield her friends, Momo races to warn the town, but the Gray-Pink Man is soon eliminated after being branded a traitor, and the President of the Gray Men orders Momo’s capture. She slips away with the help of Cassiopea, who guides her to a hidden sanctuary where time itself lives. There she meets Master Hora, a wise guardian who steers time with the help of his day-and-night sentinels, the Rooster and the Owl, who keep the rhythm of hours in balance.
Master Hora reveals the true nature of the Gray Men and the secret place where time resides. He introduces Momo to the Music of Light, a magical song capable of breaking the Grey Men’s spell and freeing everyone, though he warns that she must let it settle into her heart—she will need time to internalize it. Music of Light becomes a beacon for her, a melody that promises release, but she must sleep on it first.
While Momo learns, the town’s quiet charm morphs into a sprawling, bustling metropolis of clocks, crowds, and pressure. Beppo is wrongly accused of failing to report the danger and ends up detained, while Gigi finds his television job at risk if he keeps pursuing the mystery of Momo’s whereabouts. The clockwork threat intensifies: the Gray Men steal hours from the living and convert them into endless cigars to smoke, sustaining their existence as long as their storage holds out. If time can be stopped, they would dissolve and vanish for good.
The plan hinges on Master Hora’s ability to halt time for a single hour by falling asleep. But the Gray Men keep a reserve of hours in their Bank, and as long as those cigars endure, they can survive. Momo’s task is to keep them away from the stockpile long enough for Hora’s sleep to hold the world in a moment of stillness. With Cassiopea’s quiet courage guiding her and the purity of her soul fueling every action, Momo confronts the Grey Men and severs their hold on the town.
In the end, the spell breaks and the town is saved. Beppo’s heart is vindicated, Gigi’s life on-screen returns to its bright rhythm, and Momo can finally rejoin her friends with a future full of hope. To celebrate, Momo and her friends share a dance in the amphitheatre, a joyful(message of resilience and belonging) that lights up the town for all to see.
