Following the One Year War, Earth remains embroiled in conflict. Captain Monica initiates "Operation Thunderbolt," tasking Io with piloting the Atlas Gundam to infiltrate a South Seas Alliance-controlled ocean region. Their mission: to retrieve or eliminate data pertaining to the Psycho Zaku. Daryl, having gained an advantage over Io, returns to Earth with Zeon remnants, also seeking the Psycho Zaku's information. Facing Commander Peer and battling across the sea, ice, and jungle, Io and his allies clash with forces from Zeon, the Federation, and the South Seas Alliance in a continuing struggle.
