Miral

The story begins in the turbulent aftermath of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. The devastation left in the wake of the Deir Yassin Massacre has created a chaotic environment, and the cries of the innocent are echoed in the streets of Jerusalem.

Amidst the despair, Hind Husseini emerges as a beacon of hope. She resolves to build an orphanage to provide shelter and care for the abandoned children left to fend for themselves in the ravaged city.

Hind's journey leads her to discover 55 abandoned children wandering aimlessly in the streets. With compassion in her heart, she takes them under her wing, nurturing them and giving them the care they desperately need.

As time goes on, the number of children in Hind's care grows significantly. Striving to provide safety and love, she ultimately cares for nearly 2,000 children, showcasing her unwavering commitment to their well-being.

Hind's efforts culminate in the establishment of the Dar Al-Tifel Institute. This refuge becomes a symbol of hope and resilience, offering a safe haven for children affected by the war's devastation.

In 1978, a five-year-old girl named Miral arrives at the Institute after losing her mother. The nurturing environment of the Institute provides her with the comfort and security she needs during this tumultuous period.

Growing up within the protective walls of the Institute, Miral enjoys a childhood sheltered from the conflicts surrounding her. This safe space allows her to thrive, providing her with love and guidance.

At the age of 15, Miral is assigned to teach at a refugee camp, her first exposure to the realities faced by her people. This experience is jarring, as she witnesses the harshness of life beyond the Institute's walls.

As she teaches at the camp, Miral becomes acutely aware of the struggles and injustices her community endures. This awakening sets her on a path of internal conflict, as she begins to question her previous sheltered existence.

Amid her revelations, the First Intifada begins, igniting a passionate resistance among her people. Miral finds herself torn between her mother's teachings of peace through education and the urgent call to action from her community.

During this tumultuous time, Miral becomes enchanted by Hani, a young militant who embodies the spirit of resistance. Their relationship further complicates her journey, pulling her deeper into the struggles of her people.
