Midnight Sun

Jack Walsh, a hard edged bounty hunter, is hired by bail bondsman Eddie Moscone to locate Jonathan Mardukas and deliver him back to Los Angeles within five days. The assignment promises a quick midnight run, but Walsh suspects the job will be more complicated and dangerous. He negotiates a $100,000 fee and sets out to begin the pursuit.

Serrano's henchmen counter with a $1 million bounty for Mardukas, heightening the risk for Walsh. Walsh rejects the temptation, insisting the client should keep the reward and that he will complete the job his own way. The inflated bounty makes the pursuit more perilous as rivals join in.

Walsh traces Mardukas to New York and calls Moscone from the airport to report progress. Unbeknownst to him, the FBI is tapping Moscone's line, and an aide is tipping Serrano's men, complicating Walsh's mission.

Mardukas reveals a deep fear of flying, a detail Walsh initially doubts. The confession adds a practical obstacle as their attempts to travel by air are foiled by his panic and timing. The fear forces them to rethink their route.

The pair boards a plane in hopes of a quick trip, but Mardukas's panic forces an in-air scare that ends with a detour. They abandon the flight and switch to a long train journey across the country. The unexpected switch heightens the danger from Serrano's men.

Serrano deploys rival bounty hunter Marvin Dorfler to reclaim Mardukas. Dorfler corners Walsh and Mardukas in Pittsburgh, escalating the stakes and signaling that the chase will not end quietly.

Walsh stays sharp, and the duo escapes the trap on the train just in time. With money tight, they must keep moving by improvised means—cars, buses, and hitchhiking—while evading Dorfler and Serrano's men.

Lacking funds, Walsh and Mardukas undertake a cross‑country trek from Fremont to Amarillo, stealing cars, riding buses, and hitchhiking through small towns. The journey strains their nerves but gradually forges trust between them. They remain one step ahead of the pursuing group.

Flashbacks reveal Walsh's ten-year-ago undercover work in Chicago, where he helped bring down a drug dealer. When corrupt colleagues planted heroin, Walsh resigned rather than be corrupted, sacrificing his marriage in the process. This backstory explains his reluctance to condemn Mardukas to prison and hints at his capacity for mercy.

In Sedona, Dorfler steals Mardukas and Walsh is briefly captured during a tense phone exchange that reveals Dorfler tipped Serrano off about Mardukas's location. The betrayal deepens the peril and forces Walsh to devise a new plan.

Walsh, wearing a wire and under FBI supervision, claims to possess computer disks that could convict Serrano. He negotiates a deal to deliver Serrano to the FBI if he can escort Mardukas to Los Angeles unharmed.

Dorfler interrupts the arrangement, disabling Walsh's wire and stealing the disks. The plan collapses under pressure as Serrano's men close in, forcing Walsh to improvise once again to protect Mardukas.

Walsh and Mardukas arrive in Los Angeles with federal agents closing in on Serrano. The gangster's operation is crippled as agents close the net around him and his henchmen.

In a quiet moment, Walsh chooses mercy over imprisonment, freeing Mardukas and giving him a chance to start anew. Mardukas hands Walsh a belt with 300,000 dollars and explains it's a gift, not a payoff, and Walsh accepts the gesture with a sense of closure.
