The film begins with Harper Marlowe gazing outside her window as her husband James falls to his death. For a brief moment, it appears they are looking directly at each other, setting a tense and mysterious tone for the story.

Harper drives to a secluded countryside home for a personal vacation seeking solitude. She meets the caretaker, Geoffrey, who gives her a house tour and inquires about a Mr. Marlowe, revealing her implied divorce status.

While video chatting with her sister Riley, the connection falters with static and a screaming face appearing on the screen. This unsettling moment hints at Harold's emotional turmoil and the film’s eerie atmosphere.

Harper recalls telling James she wants a divorce, prompting him to threaten self-harm. During their argument, James becomes violent, and she tells him to leave. He then throws himself out a window and is impaled on a fence below.

While exploring the area, Harper hears echoes in a tunnel before a naked man approaches her. She runs back to the house, calls the police, and the man is later arrested but released due to lack of evidence.

Harper speaks with the vicar about her guilt over James’s suicide, which he suggests might be provoked. She also encounters a crude schoolboy, both interactions adding to the unsettling atmosphere.

At a pub, Harper meets Geoffrey and a police officer. The officer reveals the naked man was released due to insufficient evidence, heightening Harper’s paranoia and sense of danger.

Harper prepares to leave, but her camera flickers and her surroundings distort as she sees the police officer morph into the schoolboy. She is chased by a figure that transforms, increasing the suspense and chaos.

Geoffrey appears and antagonizes Harper, ultimately crashing her car while chasing her. She seeks refuge in the house as supernatural figures, including the naked man, continue to pursue her.

Harper faces the supernatural manifestations, with the naked man revealing a slit-open body who then gives birth to other characters, leading to a disturbing cycle of birth and death throughout the house.

James emerges from the chaos, expressing that he only wants Harper’s love. Despite her pleas, she realizes she cannot give him what he seeks, deepening her emotional suffering.

In the morning, Riley arrives at the house, following a trail of blood. She finds Harper, who simply looks up at her and smiles, suggesting Harper’s acceptance of her tragic fate.
