Martin in the Clouds

Marin Barić, a law student, is left in charge of the Solar apartment on Marulić Square when the Solars depart for four months by the seaside. He must take care of their dog Cezar and manage life in the building while they are away. He and his girlfriend Zorica, who rents a room across the courtyard, dream of buying their own apartment one day.

Uncle Vjenceslav Barić proposes renting out the empty Solar apartment to Italian businessman Carmine and his daughter Marcella to raise money for a down payment. He also plans to pitch some of his inventions to Carmine as part of the deal. To push the plan, he enlists a real estate agent to handle the sale.

The uncle brings in Richard Eugene Mrazek, a real estate agent who tries to nudge Martin into acting quickly and considering buying a new apartment. Martin is hesitant, but the agent’s confidence and urgency push him toward a decision. The arrangement hinges on Mrazek’s assurances and leverage.

After a viewing, Martin agrees—perhaps too eagerly—to buy the new apartment, driven by Mrazek’s persuasive sales pitch. The purchase is framed as a shortcut to securing a future together with Zorica. The deal marks a turning point that drags Marin into the larger, riskier plan.
