Paolino, an elementary‑school teacher living near Naples, suddenly becomes visibly anxious, leaving his friends baffled by his unease. The source of his tension is his affair with Assunta, the mother of one of his pupils, and the shocking news that she is now pregnant. The discovery adds further pressure to his already fraught situation, forcing him to confront the ramifications of his secret relationship.
