A shy backwoods maiden, whose only notion of romance comes from a single novel read while her father was away, reaches womanhood and longs for companionship. She runs to a remote ranch for work as a maid‑of‑all‑work, where she meets men who prove rough, brutal and selfish. The harsh reality leads her to accept her employer’s advice to return home, preferring a solitary life with her father.
