"I teach not only how to play, but how to live." In London, eccentric piano teacher Madame Sousatzka takes on Manek, a gifted teenage Bengali immigrant. As he struggles to meet her exacting standards, Manek must also contend with his mother, who competes with his mentor for his attention and loyalty.
