Sam witnesses numerous children seeking refuge outside a relief station, sent there by their parents who are afraid for their safety. Moved by their plight, he brings them into the station to offer safety.

The next day, Sam returns to find that the LRA has decimated the children's village, leaving chaos in their wake. This tragedy solidifies his commitment to helping those affected by the violence.

Haunted by his experiences in Sudan, Sam returns to the United States. However, he feels an undeniable compulsion to go back and build an orphanage for the children left orphaned by violence.
