Anna, secretary to a wealthy industrialist, falls for Carlo, the left‑leaning boyfriend of her boss’s daughter, and ends the affair. Moving in with Carlo, she cannot find work and descends into drugs and prostitution. Carlo’s right‑wing brother then forces him to resume a relationship with the industrialist’s daughter to secure the family’s finances.
