Three years after moving to town with his former institution roommate Kjell Bjarne, Elling now lives alone while Kjell lives upstairs with his partner Reidun and their daughter Mojo. Isolated and feeling like an outsider, Elling watches others adapt with amazement. When Kjell steps in to help, Elling is nudged into a fresh start, becoming clean‑cut and confident. He meets a woman who seems to fill his void, but their first dinner together brings unexpected challenges that upend his expectations.
