Seymour discovers the mysterious plant after a solar eclipse while searching for rare plants. The plant mysteriously appears in his possession, and he names it Audrey II after his crush Audrey. Orin Scrivello, Audrey's sadistic dentist boyfriend, dies during an accidental confrontation with Seymour. While trying to scare Seymour with his dental drill, Orin inhales nitrous oxide and suffocates. Seymour discovers the body and, in a moral compromise, feeds Orin's remains to Audrey II to keep the plant fed and his secret safe.

After Orin dies, Seymour faces a dilemma: the plant demands more food, and his entire livelihood and celebrity status depend on keeping it alive.
