While stationed with the French Foreign Legion in Djibouti, Lyon learns that his brother is dying after being set on fire during a drug deal and has been calling his name in agony. Arriving in New York City with no money, Lyon is drawn to an illegal street fight run by a tramp named Joshua Eldridge. He volunteers for the next bout and defeats his opponent, catching Joshua's eye. Joshua then reunites him with Cynthia Caldera, an unscrupulous organizer of underground fights who agrees to sponsor him and dubs him 'Lionheart'.

Cynthia sponsors Lyon, arranging a no-holds-barred fight against Sonny, a taunter who preys on his opponents. Lyon defeats Sonny easily, proving his prowess and earning Cynthia's confidence. The victory paves the way for a broader scheme to bring Lyon into the higher-stakes circuit.

After the Sonny fight, Lyon calls Hélène and heads across the United States toward Los Angeles, aided by Cynthia who secures their passage. Joshua keeps the plan on track, helping them navigate the journey westward. The road becomes a test of loyalty, grit, and resolve.

When Lyon reaches the hospital in Los Angeles, his brother has died. Hélène is left penniless with unpaid medical bills and little Nicole to care for. Lyon tries to offer support, but she angrily rejects his help, accusing him of deserting the family at a time of need.

The Legionnaires capture Lyon after the fight, but, moved by his niece's farewell cry, they release him a few blocks away and wish him luck with his new life in America. The act of mercy marks a turning point in Lyon's relationship with his past and his future. He walks away with a sense of vindication and purpose.

Lyon is reunited with his sister-in-law Hélène and Nicole, with Joshua by his side, as they begin a new life in America. The film closes on a hopeful note, with Lyon balancing his past loyalties against his commitment to his family. The street-fighting days give way to a future built on resilience and kinship.
