Lena runs a deserted roadside bar while eight months pregnant, abandoned by former lover Colonel Mattos of the São Paulo police. She meets Vilela, an ex‑officer on the run for a crime committed under Mattos’ command, whose lingering presence haunts them. The harsh landscape and the newborn’s constant crying intensify their isolation, turning the love story into a stark metaphor for Brazil’s unequal society and the desperate routes its marginalized must take.
