Spanning several generations, the story opens in a harsh winter as wealthy merchant Lind and his wife travel to christen their newborn daughter. A wolf attack forces them to abandon the infant, who is rescued by the Lapp Jaampa—portrayed with authority by Tryggve Larssen—and raised by a prosperous reindeer herder. The film then traces her life within the unforgiving Arctic world.
