Anna lives with her father Karl on the remote edge of northern Norway. Karl, haunted by the ghost of the wife he murdered after discovering her infidelity, has turned to heavy drinking. Seeking love, Anna meets a nearby family: a semi‑drunk widow of Karl’s age, her son Peder, and Ante, a black adopted boy who washed ashore on a plank.
