Kath & Kimderella

Kath fills out a form for a chance to win a holiday to the Kingdom of Papilloma. Kel refuses to travel because of his fear of flying and his devotion to MasterChef finals. Kath reluctantly decides to take Kim Day Craig and Sharon Strzelecki on the trip, while Prue and Trude secretly plan their own Italian holiday at the same time.

After a grueling 50-plus hour flight, Kath, Kim, and Sharon arrive in Italy exhausted. A stop at a cheap knock-off fashion shop re-energizes them, and they reach Papilloma only to find their accommodation closed. They decide to take a complimentary tour to the castle on a hill and meet Alain and King Javier, believing their imitation-brand clothes will make them appear wealthy and help Javier avoid bankruptcy.

A strange noise echoes through the castle and eyes seem to watch from holes in pictures. The masked figure, later revealed as Julio, becomes attracted to Kim, who is mistaken for royalty because of her 'Princess' title. Kath's group settles into the castle under the impression they are wealthy due to their outfits.

Javier shows Kath around Papilloma's town, where the poor openly dislike him and spit at him. He later invites the trio to an 1980s-style club where they dance to 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go'. During the night, Javier arrests a gay couple for dancing, arguing that homosexuality is illegal in Papilloma.

Kim wears a large pink dress to a royal ball while the masked Julio approaches and proposes to her. He unmasks himself, revealing he is not the queen's son, and his true identity is not as it seems. Kim accepts, joking that she has 'done worse', which becomes international headlines.

A fire is spotted on a turret and the royals hurry inside to discover the queen has started the blaze from Kim's room using Kim's hair straightener. The chandelier falls and kills the queen, and Javier explains she was locked up because she was 'crazy' and jealous of his attraction to Kath.

Back in Australia, Kel and Brett watch MasterChef when a Papilloma news update interrupts the program, hinting at Kim's royal wedding. Javier's grab of Kath's backside fuels Kel's jealousy and fear of infidelity. Kath and Kel decide to fly to Papilloma to confront Javier, with Kel undergoing hypnosis to calm his fear.

Kel undergoes hypnosis therapy to overcome his fear of flying, which oddly includes sexual undertones and a command to 'Tray tables up'. While traveling with Brett and Epponnee-Rae, the in-flight moment triggers the emergency slide as Kel heads to the toilet, undresses, and exits with his luggage.

Kath confronts Javier about his despotic rule as Kel interrupts when Javier attempts to make a move on Kath. The two men duel with swords for Kath's affections; Kel wins and Javier flees the scene.

Kim and Sharon become lost in their shared bedroom's closet after Kim is sabotaged by maid Isabella, who loves Julio. They wander into a disco-like chamber where Alain reveals he has imprisoned townspeople and homosexuals; the captives are freed by the group.

Kath restores Kim's look with a humorous makeover, transforming her into Dame Edna to fit the moment. The four protagonists reunite on the way to the wedding, with Epponnee-Rae and Brett arriving in Papilloma.

Kim is revealed not to be royalty, and Julio is not Javier's son, overturning the earlier assumptions. Gary Poole is revealed as a royal descendant, making Kath a queen and Kim a princess. The wedding is interrupted as the truth comes to light.

Alain confesses he slept with the queen and fathered a daughter, Isabella, the maid. This revelation ties together many of the hidden relationships in Papilloma.

Javier relinquishes some power and Papilloma becomes a democracy, followed by a grand celebration. Sharon kisses Alain, who cannot return her affections due to his sexuality, while Stephanie and the group discuss golf and netball. Kath and Kim decide to return to Australia at the end of the fairy-tale holiday.
