Yeji left BJ because music always came first for him. Even though they had a genuine connection over music and their relationship blossomed, BJ's priority remained the rhythm and the show rather than the romance. She couldn't compete with his dedication to his drumming career.

BJ is fired after driving away the last regular customer at the Cash Bar. This late-night incident represents the final straw after years of his prioritization of music over everything else, leading his mother Brenda and his friend Cash to urge him to take a bigger opportunity.

BJ discovers Tae is his son when he meets Yeji outside the Wildcard studio while walking with Tae. When they run into Tae's mother, BJ realizes the truth, that Tae's father is not Idris Elba as Yeji had told Tae, but BJ himself from their relationship twelve years earlier.

Kang is a powerful contestant on Wildcard who becomes annoyed when BJ's drum solo during rehearsal upstages him. Throughout the competition, Kang observes with discontent while Diamond considers removing BJ. The rivalry intensifies as the field narrows to Tae and Kang as the final two contestants.

Diamond lures BJ away with an appealing opportunity, an opening act slot for a former K-pop winner in Saudi Arabia. However, while there, BJ has a dream that convinces him to return to Korea to support Tae during the competition, showing his shift from selfish ambition to prioritizing his family.

Tae finishes in second place, but the real victory is the family's unity. The movie emphasizes that their shared love of music and the bond they formed matters more than winning. The bittersweet ending reflects realistic compromise rather than pure victory, Tae doesn't win the competition but gains something more valuable: a united family.

BNB is Tae's K-pop group that he fronts. Throughout the competition, BJ mentors them, teaching them how to scat and ride the groove. The group advances through the rounds, and BJ helps choreograph their final performance. In the end, the focus shifts to the competition between Tae and Kang as the final two contestants.

BJ shaves off his dreads upon arriving in Korea, representing a physical transformation and his willingness to change for this new opportunity. This change symbolizes his departure from his old life in LA and his attempt to adapt to the K-pop world, though it also nearly costs him the job due to his lateness.

BJ encounters Yeji unexpectedly when he walks out of the Wildcard studio with Tae and runs into Tae's mother. The reunion is startling for both of them, especially when BJ connects the dots that Tae is his son from their relationship twelve years earlier in Los Angeles.
