Gennaro invites chaos theorist Ian Malcolm to assess the park, while Hammond extends invitations to Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler. The trio travels to Isla Nublar for an on-site evaluation.

Park visitors learn that dinosaurs are cloned from DNA found in mosquitoes preserved in amber, with frogs used to fill genetic gaps. To prevent breeding, scientists manipulate chromosomes to make dinosaurs female. The group sees living Brachiosaurus and Parasaurolophus, signaling the park's potential and risks.

Hammond's grandchildren, Lex and Tim, join the park tour aboard self-driving Ford Explorers, with Hammond overseeing from the control room. The children’s presence adds a personal stake to the safety discussion. The touring vehicles navigate the park's mapped routes.

Led by a bribe from Dodgson, Nedry plans to steal frozen dinosaur embryos. He disables the park's security system to reach the embryo storage and hides the specimens in a Barbasol can. The security breach initiates a cascade of failures.

Nedry's sabotage plunges the park into darkness, disabling electric fences near the T. rex paddock and stranding the visitors. The Tyrannosaurus rex escapes, attacks a tour vehicle, injures Malcolm, and devours Gennaro as Grant and the kids flee. The situation demonstrates how fragile the park's safety systems are.

Nedry attempts to reach the docks but loses his way in the rain, crashes his Jeep, and is killed by a venom-spitting Dilophosaurus. His death removes one major saboteur but leaves the park in greater peril. The incident foreshadows the island's escalating danger.

Sattler teams with game warden Muldoon to search for survivors and the remaining dinosaurs. They locate Malcolm just as the Tyrannosaurus returns, prompting a tense retreat. The group's safety becomes the immediate priority as the island spirals toward chaos.

Grant, Tim, and Lex reach higher ground and encounter a herd of Brachiosaurus. They notice broken eggshells and conclude the dinosaurs may be breeding thanks to amphibian DNA. This discovery heightens the stakes about the park's reliance on genetics.

The group witnesses a Gallimimus stampede, hunted by the Tyrannosaurus. The scene underscores the predators' dominance and the chaos caused by the security failures. It also demonstrates the danger the children face inside the park.

Hammond and engineer Ray Arnold attempt to reboot the park's systems after Nedry's sabotage. Arnold heads toward a maintenance shed to complete the reboot, but he doesn't return. The shutdown has already released the Velociraptors, setting up the deadly pursuit.
