Kukoo and Nainaa marry after knowing each other since school. They relocate to Toronto for Nainaa's corporate job, while Kukoo works as a nightclub bouncer to support them. In the early years, distance and silence begin to erode the warmth of their relationship.

Over about five years, their marriage strains under prolonged silences and unfinished conversations. Resentment quietly builds as they drift emotionally and professionally apart. The idea of separation starts to creep into their thoughts, even if they don’t act on it yet.

Nainaa is offered the position of vice-president of HR in New York City, signaling a potential career elevation. Kukoo feels frustrated with his own stagnant job and the growing distance between them. The couple contemplates major life changes, including the possibility of divorce, though it remains unacted upon for now.

The couple travels to Patiala, India for Ginny’s wedding and to be with their family. They are welcomed by Kukoo’s cheerful parents Bheem and Geeta, as well as Ginny herself. Ginny’s conflicted feelings for her former boyfriend Gaurav add tension to the festive atmosphere.

On their wedding anniversary, Nainaa and Kukoo confess the strain in their marriage and privately decide to divorce after Ginny’s wedding. They maintain appearances for Ginny while quietly plotting separate futures once the family obligations have passed.

Kukoo reveals to Geeta and Nainaa that Bheem is having an extramarital affair with Meera, their former high school math teacher. To complicate matters, Bheem fakes a heart attack to elicit sympathy and to keep up appearances with the family.

Geeta schemes to bring Bheem and Meera back together, informing Nainaa and Kukoo at a temple gathering. Her plan creates tension as the family grapples with loyalties and the true state of their relationships.

Kukoo storms out of the house and goes out drinking with Gurpreet, his best friend and Nainaa’s elder brother. The night underscores the growing estrangement and the fragility of his relationship with Nainaa.

Bheem leaves Meera to reconnect with Geeta, but Meera does not want to be with him. When Kukoo confronts Bheem on the road, Bheem pretends to have left Meera, and Geeta ends up forgiving him in the moment.

Ginny proceeds with her wedding vows, unaware of the full drama at home. Kukoo and Gurpreet mock Meera, only to learn that Meera had rejected Bheem. Geeta slaps Kukoo and ultimately decides to file for divorce.

Divorce proceedings commence for both couples, signaling a formal break from the past. The court grants Bheem and Geeta six months to reconsider, while Kukoo’s commitment to Nainaa begins to shift as reconciliation feels possible.

Kukoo apologizes to Nainaa for his jealousy and lack of support, paving the way for a reconciliation. They decide to leave for New York City together, and Bheem contemplates reconciling with Geeta within the six-month period, with Ginny potentially marrying Gaurav.
