Mamat, a Kelantan native, left Malaysia years ago to train fighting bulls (a jogho) with his brother Lazim in southern Thailand, a practice banned at home but still legal. He lives with his wife and three daughters—two divorced, one unmarried—and his only son studies at a boarding school in Kelantan. The brothers lead a village that survives on bull‑fight gambling until Lazim is killed by Isa in the arena.
