Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out!

After being shot down by police, Ricky Caldwell lies in a coma for six years. Doctors affix a transparent dome to his head to repair his damaged skull. Dr. Newbury begins using a clairvoyant approach to reach him.

Dr. Newbury, an eccentric researcher, starts a project to reach Ricky through a blind clairvoyant girl named Laura Anderson. He recruits Laura to participate in sessions intended to bridge Ricky's mind to hers. The aim is to communicate with Ricky while he remains unconscious.

On Christmas Eve, Laura experiences a particularly traumatic session that makes her regret participating in the experiment. Newbury pressures her, insisting they can talk more after she returns home from visiting her grandmother. The tension in the experiment grows as the holiday approaches.

A drunk hospital employee dressed as Santa Claus enters Ricky's room and taunts him, awakening him from his coma. Ricky murders the Santa impersonator and a hospital receptionist, seizing a letter opener as his escape tool. The incident spurs Ricky to flee the hospital.

After a session with her psychiatrist, Laura is introduced by her brother to his girlfriend, a flight attendant named Jerri. Laura is wary of Jerri, setting up tension within the group. The trio heads off to Granny's house for the holiday.

Ricky acquires a truck and fuel after murdering a motorist and a gas station attendant, then makes his way to Granny's house. A Christmas gift from Granny provokes him, and she is killed when he is triggered by her gift. The attack marks his first direct strike against a civilian.

Lieutenant Connely and Dr. Newbury discover that hospital staff were butchered. Surveillance footage shows Ricky uttering Laura's name, revealing that he is drawn toward her. The discovery intensifies the hunt and confirms Laura's connection to the killer.

When Laura arrives at Granny's, she senses something is wrong as Ricky watches through the window. The car is sabotaged and Granny has not arrived; Laura warns Chris and Jerri that trouble is near. The family grows anxious as the night deepens.

Ricky penetrates the house and attacks Jerri, throttling her, while Laura and Chris try to intervene. Chris stabs Ricky in the arm, giving Laura a chance to retreat with Jerri's body nearby. The group barricades the door, but Ricky continues to press the assault.

Newbury drives off in an attempt to trap Ricky with a tape of their sessions, hoping the calming effect will work. Ricky is drawn to him and stabs Newbury in the stomach. The experiment spirals into a fatal turn.

With Jerri dead and Chris mortally wounded, Laura is pursued by Ricky through the house and into the basement. Laura is haunted by visions of Granny as she tries to fend him off; Chris arrives and shoots Ricky with a shotgun, but the shells prove to be blanks. Ricky disarms Chris and presses his assault, leaving Laura to improvise with a broken stick.

Laura manages to impale Ricky with a broken stick as backup arrives. Connely finds the dying Newbury and Laura cradling Chris's body; Newbury dies, and Laura is left devastated. Laura says Merry Christmas as she watches Ricky break the fourth wall and declare a final line: And a Happy New Year.
