In the early 1500s a Spanish priest named Santiago joins the conquistadors on a mission to bring Christianity to the native Indians. The expedition is violently attacked and all are killed except Santiago. He first continues his evangelical work, but gradually embraces the indigenous way of life, living among them until the Spanish forces eventually return.
