A South American shaman on a PR tour in France meets Parisian Perrin in a hotel elevator. He follows Perrin to his flat and stays overnight despite Perrin's reluctance. After the next day's PR event the shaman suffers a heart attack and, from his hospital bed, demands Perrin's presence. Though indifferent, Perrin becomes mentally linked to the shaman through the elevator encounter.
