The film follows the wife of a prominent doctor who is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Wanting to spare her husband, she first asks family friend Dr. Lang to help end her life, but he refuses. She then turns to her husband, Dr. Heyt, who assists her suicide. A chambermaid witnesses the act and reports it, leading to Heyt’s murder trial. Dr. Lang testifies against him, yet later, confronted with a similar case, he reconsiders his view on mercy killing.
