I Love Trouble

Peter and Sabrina begin covering the same train crash from opposite angles, turning the story into a competitive race for the scoop. Their rivalry sets the tone for the investigation as clues emerge that hint at a larger conspiracy behind the disaster.

Danny Brown calls Sabrina about a briefcase at the crash site, pulling her deeper into the mystery. She goes to a deserted building and discovers him dead with a bullet wound and 'LDI' written on his palm, while a thin man with a briefcase observes her from the shadows.

Sabrina and Peter meet in a night-time elevator, narrowly escaping a gunman who falls to his death. A paper bearing the number '307' drops from his pocket, hinting at a coded link between the assassination and the crash.

The duo visit Mrs. Beekman to discuss quitting the story, and Sabrina wants to step away while Peter shows cautious reluctance. But when they re-encounter on an airplane, they realize they are both continuing the investigation, deciding to team up even as they spy on each other.

They deduce that Beekman died a week before the crash and that his data ended up with his son, who perished on the train. Peter writes 'LDF' on a scrap of paper, while the thief who carried 'LDI' on his palm couldn't finish the final letter 'F'.

Sam explains that Wilson Chess's dairy venture could generate around a billion dollars per year. A car attempts to run them down as they leave, and they barely escape by diving out of the way.

On Chess's company property they uncover that Chess was expelled from Yale for burning down the English building with Vargas. This past rivalry hints at a ruthless willingness to manipulate people and data to protect profits.

At a restaurant, they identify Chess, Beekman & Hervey and a research scientist as key players behind the LDF scheme. They conclude Beekman refused to fake results and passed the true data to his son, who was murdered on the train. A gunman then shoots at them, forcing a tense escape that ends with a car chase and a forest break-down before campers rescue them.

Walking the Nevada streets, they are followed by the Thin Man and run into a wedding chapel. They pretend to marry, but the ceremony turns real, and they decide to have it annulled the next morning.

Peter returns to Chess; Sabrina, undercover as a guide, gets him thrown out to secure Chess's exclusive story. Sam informs Chess that Sabrina works for his company, deepening the conspiracy.

On the plane, Peter calls Sam and learns that the extension 307 matches the earlier note, revealing Sam's true allegiance. Realizing Sam is Vargas working with Chess, Peter abandons the flight and heads toward Chess's compound.

Sabrina decodes the disk, but Sam—revealed as Vargas—arrives with the Thin Man to silence her. Beekman's data shows the LDF hormone causes cancer in lab animals, and Beekman was the whistleblower who wanted to publish. Peter sabotages the lab lights, triggering a fight that leaves the Thin Man and Sam/Vargas dead. Sabrina keeps the microfilm, and the papers publish Chess's crime.

Despite everything, Sabrina and Peter remain married and continue their cat-and-mouse dynamic, now with the scandal out in the open. They keep probing each other while the truth about Chess is publicized.
