Brantley Foster, played by Michael J. Fox, is a determined young graduate who has just completed his business degree in the heart of Kansas. Eager to embark on his professional journey, he relocates to the bustling streets of New York City to start an entry-level position at a prominent investment firm that he secured while still a student. However, upon arrival at his new workplace, he comes to a shocking revelation: the firm is on the brink of shutting down due to a hostile takeover, leaving Briantley and 90% of his fellow employees without a job. Despite this setback, Brantley’s spirit remains unbroken as he continues to seek new opportunities. Unfortunately, he faces a string of rejections, with interviewers frequently informing him that he lacks the necessary experience to land a position.

Determined to turn his luck around, Brantley decides to leverage a family connection he never knew he had. His mother had mentioned that he is related to Howard Prescott, a distant uncle and the esteemed CEO of Pemrose, one of the wealthiest investment firms in the world. With a spark of hope, Brantley makes his way to Howard’s office, using his resourcefulness to convince Prescott’s secretary to grant him a brief meeting with the executive. During their ride, Brantley’s infectious charm wins Vera over, leading to an invitation for a drink at her luxurious estate, where they share a revealing conversation about her troubled marriage.
