Aric breaks into a Maryland multiplex to murder the projectionist, but finds the target is already dead. A note on the body reads 'I've Got Your Pattern,' hinting that someone is tracking his habits.

Enraged by the possibility that someone is onto him, Aric shoots a suspicious dog walker on a nearby street. The act demonstrates his willingness to kill indiscriminately to protect his secret.

A few nights later, Aric is beaten unconscious in his own home by a mysterious stalker who identifies himself as 'Dark.' The encounter confirms Dark is a real rival killer who has been watching him.

Seeking to uncover Dark's identity, Aric hires Marv as a private investigator to dig into Dark's past. Marv begins gathering information and planning surveillance to outpace him.

Dark dares Aric to outdo his kill count by murdering three picnickers. Aric answers by killing four people inside a theatre, escalating their deadly game.

Marv informs Aric that Dark has been watching him through his own private investigator, Frank Cooper. The revelation unsettles Aric as the surveillance tightens around him.

Aric dismisses Marv's caution and continues his plan, delving into Dark's background via Frank. He believes he can outsmart Dark by uncovering more information.

During the investigation, Aric realizes Dark is spying on him through a coworker named Barb, whom he threatens into helping with his scheme. Barb's involvement deepens the web of deception surrounding both killers.

Aric breaks into Frank's house again and is confronted by Marv, who is revealed to be Dark. The two serial killers try to outmaneuver each other with various trump cards.

Dark guns down Frank, who had kept switching sides for monetary reasons. Aric reveals he has brought along a sniper rifle-wielding workmate named Doug, turning the showdown into a larger trap.

Aric chases and fights Dark in the woods, with Dark gaining the upper hand until Aric shoots him with a handgun, one of eighteen he had left in the area for this moment. The confrontation ends with Dark collapsing.

Brad, a coworker unaware of Aric's true nature, appears and is murdered by Aric, eliminating another loose end in his plan.

After erasing the remaining loose ends, Aric relocates to another city to start a new life. He severs ties with anyone who could reveal his double life, ensuring his secret stays hidden.
