Hulk: Where Monsters Dwell

The monsters roaming New York are actually teenagers who fell asleep and entered the Dream Dimension. Nightmare transformed them into the physical manifestations of their deepest fears, turning their nightmares into real creatures that could attack the waking world.

The opening scenes establish that these creatures are not ordinary beasts but dreamers caught in Nightmare's realm.

During the initial fight against the monsters in New York, the Hulk unexpectedly reverts to an unconscious Bruce Banner. This leaves Doctor Strange without Hulk's strength and forces them to adapt their strategy on the spot, raising the stakes for the upcoming confrontation.

The Dream Dimension is Nightmare's realm where he controls nightmares. On Halloween night, Nightmare attempts to breach this dimension and merge it with reality, allowing dream creatures to enter the waking world and transform ordinary dreamers into the monsters terrorizing New York.

Nightmare transforms Benito Serrano into a Minotaur as a punishment and prison. Serrano was captured while trying to rescue the other teenagers, and Nightmare twisted his fear into a monstrous form to keep him trapped in the Dream Dimension.

Serrano's determination to save the others makes him a target for Nightmare's cruelest trick.

Hulk and Doctor Strange mount a final assault on Nightmare in New York after escaping the Dream Dimension. The combined forces of Hulk, Strange, and the Paranormal Containment Unit push Nightmare back through the dimensional rift, forcing him back into the Dream Dimension and ending his threat to the waking world.

The earlier capture of Strange was part of Nightmare's strategy, but it also gave the heroes insight into how to counter him.

The Paranormal Containment Unit is a S.H.I.E.L.D. team assembled to guard the physical bodies of Hulk and the heroes while they journey into the Dream Dimension. The unit includes Jasper Sitwell as a zombie, Man-Thing, Vampire by Night (Nina Price), and Warwolf, each tasked with containing the rampaging dream-creatures.

Strange explicitly assembles this unit before entering the Dream Dimension to prevent collateral damage.

Hulk and Bruce Banner devise a plan to free the teenagers, Ana, Eric, and Gayle, by forcing them to confront their deepest fears. By facing their terrors head-on rather than running, they break Nightmare's hold and find a path back to the real world.

After defeating Nightmare, Hulk renames the Paranormal Containment Unit the Howling Commandos as a tribute to their teamwork and courage. The name acknowledges their effectiveness in battling supernatural threats and solidifies their new identity as allies of Doctor Strange.

Throughout the battle, the unit proves their worth fighting alongside Hulk and Strange.

After Nightmare is defeated and the Dream Dimension is sealed, the teenagers, Ana, Eric, and Gayle, are freed from their monster forms. Benito Serrano, despite being trapped as a Minotaur, becomes an unexpected ally and joins the heroes in defending against Nightmare's remaining influence.

Serrano's transformation into a Minotaur was meant to trap him, but he uses his new form to help in the final battle.
