Huda's Salon (2022) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

The ending of "Huda's Salon" is layered with themes of hope, distrust, and the ongoing cycle of violence and oppression. After a harrowing sequence where Reem, overwhelmed by fear and despair, considers suicide by gas poisoning, she finds that the cylinder has run out of gas, thwarting her plan. In that moment of vulnerability, she reaches out to Musa from the Israeli secret service, pretending to be willing to cooperate because her situation has become unbearable. She then makes a strategic decision to betray the Resistance by offering to lead them to Musa, the secret agent. This act of defiance offers a glimmer of hope; she is no longer a helpless victim but begins to assert some control over her fate.

By the end, Hasan’s reassurance that her husband and daughter are safe suggests that she has some assurance of their safety, yet the underlying mistrust remains. The final scene shows Reem with a slight smile, indicating a possible shift in her mental state—perhaps a recognition that survival depends on deception and adaptation in this brutal, chaotic world. Her statement about her daughter's safety and the destruction of her photograph signifies a moment of relief, but also highlights the uncertain and fragile nature of her new position within the ongoing conflict. Ultimately, the film leaves viewers with a sense of ambiguity, emphasizing that in such a world, hope is fleeting and trust almost impossible. Reem's act of alignment with the resistance and her willingness to assist them suggest a small step toward reclaiming agency, even if the story remains incomplete, and her future remains uncertain. Her silence and the closing black screen reinforce the idea that her fate—and that of many others—continues to hang in the balance within a society where survival often depends on deception and helplessness.
