A loosely knit band of WWI veterans and riders arrives in Bingo, Nebraska, seeking their fortunes in California. They are challenged to a race by local hot rod Billy, and the outcome is disputed, prompting the bikers to flee into the surrounding countryside. This tense encounter sets the tone for their uneasy welcome in small-town America.

Seeking shelter after the heated race, the group finds refuge at a remote farm owned by sisters Acacia and Oriole. Oriole agrees to let them spend the night in the barn, hinting at a stern but protective rule. The late father’s shamanic legacy casts a shadow over the guests.

In the middle of the night, Giblets attempts to rape Acacia, prompting Oriole to cast a protective hex. The danger in the barn reveals the sisters' stern rule over the guests. The tension becomes personal and lethal.

An owl attacks Giblets outside, tearing at his eyes and killing him. The others discover his body the next morning and Acacia and Oriole oversee a small funeral rather than burying him on the land. The death marks the first deadly consequence of the farm's atmosphere.

Acacia grows closer to Golly, igniting a budding romance, while Whizzer begins teaching Oriole how to ride a motorcycle. Oriole’s skills and jealousy create friction within the group. The day deepens the evolving dynamics among the travelers.

China clarifies that Whizzer is not a real veteran but an ex-mechanic from Kansas City who invented a grand life story. The revelation unsettles the women and strains the fragile trust among the group. Conflict over truth, memory, and heroism intensifies.

Jimbang attempts to shoot Oriole, but the gun misfires and kills him instead. The loss tightens the sense that escape is perilous. The remaining members brace for further danger.

Chupo, under Acacia’s spell, attacks Whizzer in the barn. Whizzer defends himself and kills Chupo with a sickle while Oriole watches from the shadows. The violence underscores the orbit of manipulation and magic around the group.

Moments after Chupo’s death, Oriole and Whizzer share a reckoning in the barn as Oriole and him have sex. The act exposes the fraying loyalties and moral ambiguity of the travelers. The moment echoes the film's themes of desire, power, and control.

Whizzer and Golly prepare to depart for California, but Oriole dons her shaman regalia and causes the motorcycles to ignite. Whizzer stops her before she collapses, ending the immediate plan to flee. The moment heightens the sense of looming catastrophe.

Golly chooses to stay with Acacia, while Oriole agrees to go with Whizzer, and they ride off together on the back of his motorcycle. As they pull away, four fighter jets pass overhead, signaling a larger world awaiting them beyond the farm. The story closes on a road toward an uncertain future.
