Helen of Four Gates was filmed in Hebden Bridge in 1920 by silent‑era pioneer Cecil M. Hepworth, adapting the best‑selling novel of the same title. The picture enjoyed great popularity on its debut but later slipped into obscurity for many decades, with every copy thought lost. Remarkably, a surviving print resurfaced in a Canadian vault in 2007.
