A striking highland beauty becomes enamoured of the wealthy noble Janusz, spurning the devoted highlander Jontek. As their romance unfolds, she discovers Janusz’s promises are deceitful, exposing the bitter betrayal at the story’s core. The film adapts Stanisław Moniuszko’s celebrated Polish opera, and Konstanty Meglicki’s version is one of three pre‑war Polish adaptations.
