Half Brothers

In 1994 Mexico, Renato is a boy who loves flying a model airplane with his father Flavio. Flavio comes home from work but soon becomes distant as the pull of America grows stronger. Renato is devastated when his father promises to return but never does.

Twenty-five years later, Renato has become a successful aviation executive in Mexico. During an interview with an American reporter, he openly insults Americans as fat, lazy, stupid, and ignorant. He explains that he has not expanded his business into the United States, signaling a deep-seated resentment.

Renato is engaged to Pamela and set to become stepfather to her son Emilio. Emilio is unusual and teased at school for wearing rubber masks, which complicates their budding relationship. Renato makes an effort to bond, but it feels performative and fails to connect.

Katherine, Flavio's wife, tells Renato that Flavio is very ill and wants to see him in Chicago. Renato recalls the last time Flavio called and he refused to speak, a memory that haunts him. He reluctantly agrees to travel to Chicago to see his father.

At the hospital, Flavio greets Renato with warmth, and a surprising moment occurs when Asher arrives and calls Flavio 'Dad.' Flavio reveals to both men that they are brothers. He asks them to complete one last favor by looking for Eloise after delivering an envelope to a man named Evaristo.

The day after, Renato learns Flavio has died and attends his funeral, where some attendees know him as 'Frank.' Asher pressures Renato to honor their father’s wish, but Renato remains reluctant until he decides to join him on the quest.

With two days before the wedding, Renato and Asher embark on a road trip that leads to a detour toward a goat farm and an old factory linked to Flavio’s past. Renato is annoyed by the detour, but they press on toward Oklahoma to find more clues.

In a bar they meet Evaristo, who gives them a key and shares stories about Flavio’s life. Evaristo explains how Flavio funded the toy-plane business, and he hands Renato a box containing another envelope labeled Eloise. The clue prompts them to continue toward Oklahoma.

In Oklahoma City, they meet Mr. B, the pawn shop owner who holds Flavio’s wedding ring. He recounts Flavio’s mugging, arrest, and illness that left him stranded; the ring is returned to him as part of the tale. Mr. B also gives them an envelope for Eloise.

At the airport, Renato discovers he does not have his passport. Asher admits he threw it away to keep Renato working on their father's last request. They decide to head toward a church, but the car breaks down and their fuel is contaminated by goat-made ethanol.

The duo finds a remote cabin where they boil moonshine to purify water and accidentally get high from the fumes. Asher reveals the passport was destroyed, and Renato, enraged, locks him in the bathroom to steal the car. Renato is later arrested by a border patrol and ends up in detention.

Renato is bailed the next morning and reunites with Asher in a diner, learning the rednecks who mocked Asher stole the goat. They drive back toward the cabin, fill the place with gas, and knock out the assailants to rescue the goat.

The brothers reach a church and unlock a cabinet using a code derived from Flavio’s instruction to see things differently. Inside, a DVD reveals Flavio's confession and explains his choice to pass Eloise, his actual plane, to his sons. The nun confirms Eloise is a real plane Flavio built for them, guiding the brothers toward forgiveness.

Renato and Pamela marry, and Renato makes a genuine effort to bond with Emilio by letting him fly a toy plane. They crash the toy plane into the yard, provoking laughter and chaos at the reception, signaling a rebuilt family dynamic.
